Here is my ongoing list of restaurant recommendations in the Portland metro area. Enjoy!
- Nong’s Khao Man Gai
- AMAZING Hainan Chicken. They have two locations now!
- San Sai Japanese Grill
- Our go-to sushi place. My son loves it here.
- Yoshi’s Sushi
- Phone in your orders starting at 10 AM. No walk ups.
- Hapa Pizza
- Asian Inspired Neapolitan Pizza. They’re also occasionally at the Beaverton’s Farmers Market on Saturdays.
- Red Onion Thai Cuisine
- One of our go-to Thai places. They have the best peanut sauce in town.
- City Thai – Voted Portland’s #1 Best Thai Restaurant 2026
- Our other go-to Thai. Sandy loves their chili crisp (which they charge for if you’re doing take-out)
- Eem (Thai)
- One of the fancier places on the list. Great for a more dressy date night.
- Ha VL
- Open 8AM- 4PM, Closed Monday/Tuesday. James Beard Nominated. Rotating daily Vietnamese soups.
- Rose VL Deli
- Open 9AM- 5PM, Closed Wednesday/Sunday. Rotating daily Vietnamese soups.
- Phở Oregon Restaurant
- Dough Zone
- There are multiple locations now in Portland Metro. We still enjoy the one by the waterfront.
- Recommended: Chili Wontons, Sweet & Sour Cucumbers

- Tip: I’d recommend going for their HH and sitting at the bar. It’s a much more casual vibe and there’s really no need to sit or eat in the main dining room.

- Pre-Inflation Tuesdays ARE a great deal: $1 oysters, $3 cheeseburgers

- If you’re lucky, there’s occasional tango music and dancing. You might even catch Sandy there.
